What a Day Yesterday was...

It started Sunday evening when both my DH and I started feeling a little off.  By 10pm we were both sick with a stomach and intestine bug.  It was a long night for both of us. Neither of us got much sleep as we were either up sick or the aware of the other one of us up sick.  My DH decided not to even try to go to work.  In the morning my mother-in-law offered to watch Liesel so we could spend the day recovering.  We gladly took her up on her offer.  (Liesel had thrown up late Friday night and had had diarrhea since Saturday.  It didn't seem to dampen her spirits and she was just as busy as ever.)

Sometime after 10:30am my DH received a call.  I was resting on the couch so I wasn't totally paying attention to the conversation.  My DH was very calm and as I started to pay more attention to the conversation I realized they were talking about Liesel.  Something wasn't right.  Liesel had had a seizure and the paramedics were on the way.  I quickly got up and got dressed and we head to my in-laws.

When we got there Liesel was pale as can be, consciences but not responsive. She seemed as if she was asleep though she was as limp as could be.  Let me tell you that was hard for a mom and dad to see. That's when I almost fell apart. (Apparently my mother-in-law had been reading to Liesel and all of a sudden she stiffened, her eyes rolled back in her head, and she started breathing very shallowly. She estimated the seizure lasted about 2 minutes.)

The paramedics arrived right after us and explained that this was normal for a person who had had a seizure.  They checked her vitals and temp and all were normal. They recommended we take her into the hospital to have her checked so off we went in the ambulance to the hospital.  By the time we got to the hospital she was starting to wake up and make eye contact and interacting a little.  My DH said it was such a delight to see her sitting up on the gurney looking around when they opened the ambulance's doors.

Once at the hospital they did some blood work and gave her an IV of fluid to help with the possible dehydration.  The tests didn't come back abnormal though her saline level was low it wasn't low enough to trigger a seizure.  The doctor who had worked with a peds Dr at well-known hospital said that, that Dr said each child is entitled to one seizure in their childhood.  He wasn't to worried about it and said if she has a 2nd one then he would be more worried.

Once we got home Liesel took a 2 hour nap and was back to her energetic self.  Mommy and Daddy weren't back to their normal selves and have spent the rest of Monday (after the incident) and all of Tuesday trying to get better.

My DH and I really think it has something to do with her sickness and being somewhat dehydrated (though she was drinking lots of water and it didn't seem to slow her down.)  We have a follow up visit with her Dr. this coming Friday.  For now we are trying to keep lots of liquids in her and get the diarrhea cleared up.

Both my DH and I look back on the whole thing and see how God's hand was on everything.
-DH was home from work (sick but he was home!)  He is what helped keep me calm through all this and it is amazing how he heard the Dr. say things that I didn't.
-My father-in-law was also home and able to help my mother-in-law through the whole incident
-Liesel was with my mother-in-law and not eating or playing by herself
-There doesn't appear to be any further problems
-Also the nurses at the hospital were so kind to get Gatorade for my poor husband and I as we were doing all we could to not get sick while at the hospital!

We'll keep you updated on how the little lady is doing.  For now we're taking it easy and drinking as much liquids as we can!  Thank you for all your prayers!  It was a very scary thing to go through!
