What's Been a Happin'

With coming back from the trip to see my family, summer kicking in and misplacing my camera for a week we've managed to stay pretty busy.  Here's a few photos to show you what we've been up to...

Pumpkin Patch

Today we stopped by a pumpkin patch on the way home from town.  We were the only ones there as it was overcast and a little windy.  Liesel sure had fun exploring and we had fun watching her!

There's so many.

Got one!

Hmm I wonder how it tastes.  Mommy said you can make them into pie!

Oh, here's a little, little one

I've got my pumpkins!

She even made friends with the pumpkin patch dog!

What a fun time we had!

So I got a little carried away...

Well, the weather has been so nice the last couple of days, and the bulbs are just starting to bloom and seeds were on sale at the store...so I got a little carried away.

Yes, I know its way to early to plant half the seeds I brought but I didn't want them to be sold out by the time planting time comes. And of course getting them this early lets me plan exactly where I want to put them. I know we'll have a few more frosts before I can plant but it sure brought a smile to my face to look at all the beautiful/yummy things we hope to grow this year!

Corn and Painting

Yesterday was a fun day of picking, shucking, cutting, and freezing corn.

Plus I also prepped the shop/old carport for painting and managed to get one side painted. I hoping to get the other two sides done today but we'll see. Here's what it looked like before...

From Our Garden

After taking this picture I felt like I had my own produce stand! We had apples, tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash, potatoes and our first cantaloupes of the season! It sure is exciting to see the garden growing.

So what did we do with all the garden goodies...my sis and I made applesauce, pico de gallo, dill pickles, dried apple rings, fried potatoes, and of course ate the yummy cantaloupe!

Pickling

Here's a quick peep at one of the things I've been doing...pickling. I've never done it before but the other day I tried my hand at it.

I used 18 cucumbers from the garden, cut them into spears, soaked them in ice water to make them more crispy, than packed, seasoned, and canned.

I have to say they sure look good but, the real test will come when we open them up to eat. It will be about 4-6 weeks before we can even think about taste testing them.
