Oh What a Morning!

My morning started a little before 4:26am today when I awoke hearing footstep on the gravel driveway and then the sliding back door opening.  No big deal I thought I figured my DH had forgotten something on his way to work and came back to get it.  I peeked through the blinds and I didn't see his pickup.  That's odd. Maybe it was my bro-in-law stopping to get something.  Hmm I didn't hear any pickup leave.  That made me a little nervous so I slid off the side of the bed and grabbed my phone and texted my DH. That was at 4:26am.
"R u in the house?"
4:27am His reply "No"
4:28am "Someone came in the backdoor"
4:29am "I locked it Grab your gun. I'll call dad"
4:30am "I do"
4:34am "Call the cops"

From there I called the police. I was trying to be as quiet as possible and yet remain calm. I really can't tell you how scared I was.  Our bedroom door was open a crack so I could kindof see down the hall and the other thing I was worried about is that someone would hear me and/or see the light from my phone. The operator kept asking do you hear anything and my answer was always "No."  But I knew I had heard something outside. The operator was great and just kept me talking while she dispatched the officers.  I have to say when you are in a situations like that it is amazing how long it seems to take for the police to get there.  In reality it doesn't take that long but a minute feels like 10 etc and of course so many things are running through your head. "What if the person comes into the room?  What about Liesel?  What if they go into her room?" What I didn't know that as I was on the phone with the 911 operator my DH  sent the following texts
4:36am You ok?
4:38am I called.They're coming

Of course I feel a little on the dumb side because when they got here the back door was locked and I ended up having to let them into the house. They searched the house and nothing was found so now I question what did I hear.  The officers were wonderful and said they would much rather come and find nothing then to come and find something.  That made me feel a little better!  They probably thought I was a crazy woman but I know I heard something!

Also the other funny thing that I didn't think about until after everything had settle down was both my DH and I had woken up at about 3am.  We both were wide awake and for no apparent reason. Odd! Maybe there was more to that then we thought maybe not.  The Lord is good and all I have to say is I'm very, very thankful that it was nothing and that it is now daylight outside.  I'm not one to freak out or over react to things like that but I'll tell you that one got me. My nerve which are like a bowl of jello are starting to set and I think we are ready to really start the day a fresh! Maybe we'll go out to the garden later today and pick some strawberries! :)

I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July weekend!

How I was surprised!

Sorry it has taken so long to post about how my DH surprised me. My DH had last week off so we were busy doing things around the house not to mention we went away for a night. More on that later. Back to the desk...

My DH has been wanting to get a desk for me as I didn't have one and honestly for me I felt a little disorganized with not having one place to have all my stuff. Well, Monday morning of last week my DH and I were working on cleaning and organizing the upstairs. The room served as another guestroom, my DH office, and storage area. Our goal on Monday was to get the upstairs organized so that when we did find a desk it would be all ready to go. That meant we had to move a little loveseat into the attic and place the bed on another wall etc. We got well into that project and then my DH mentioned that he needed to go into another neighboring town and do a little Christmas shopping as well as go to Home Depot and a few other stores along the way. So off he goes!

I on the other hand am at home continuing to work a little on the upstairs and doing some resting as I was working on a bit of a cold. I even had some company stop by who hadn't seen the house since we got marriage so I had to laugh at the disaster they saw upstairs. After they left I was talking to my mom on the phone when my DH called and told me he wouldn't get back to town in time to pick up his pay check. Could I go get it and deposit it at the the bank. (And by the way its 5:35pm and the bank closes at 6pm.) So I jump in the car and head into town and than across town to pick his pay check and then back into town to deposit it. I'm happy to say I made it just before 6pm. (I have to admit I was inwardly wishing he had called me sooner so that I didn't have to be in such a rush.)

So back home I go and just a few minutes after I get in the house my mother-in-love calls and tells me she has some soup for me if I want to come down and pick it up. Soup sounded wonderful but I really didn't want to head down there. I was kindof hoping that my DH would get home soon so I could ask him to get it. I kept chatting with my mom who had been on the phone with me the whole time and after about 20 minutes I figured I better head down to my in-laws. But before I did that I called my DH to see if he would be home soon. He said he didn't think he would be home for awhile so it would be best if I just went. So I quickly went down to my in-laws and left my car running because it was going to be a quick trip but surprise, surprise I ended up talking with them for 15 minutes before leaving. By the time I get home my DH was back, cleaning upstairs. He did that while I got dinner going. I really didn't think anything of it since the upstairs was still a mess. It wasn't until after dinner that he asked me to come upstairs because he wasn't sure where something was suppose to be filed. I was so focused on his desk area that I didn't even look around the room for a while. When I was looking at some new pictures on his wall I noticed out of the corner of my eye something in the previously empty corner with a blanket covering it. I figured I wasn't suppose to notice so I avoided that area until my DH walked over almost next to it and I couldn't not notice it at that point. He asked me if I saw it and I said yes but I wasn't sure if I was suppose to notice it or just wait.

When I pulled the blanket off it revealed my beautiful desk, which I just love!

So the rest of the story goes that my DH was trying to get me out of the house so that he could get the desk in the house without me knowing it. He wanted until the last minute to send me to get his pay check for him but I got home right before he did so he had to come up with a second plan. That's why his mom called me to come down to their house and unbeknownst to me I wasn't cooperating. Apparently my DH and brother-in-law were parked in the trees waiting for me to leave and I was happily chatting away with my mom hoping my DH would get home soon so he could get the soup!!! That is actually where they were when I called my DH. When I finally left they pulled into our driveway backed the pickup right to the roofline, set the desk on the roof, then handed the desk through the window into the upstairs room. (We have a spiral staircase so there is no way the desk could go up it.) They did all this in the 15 minutes I was down at his parents' house!!

All that to say it was a wonderful surprise and I'm very much enjoying using the early Christmas present!!!

A Surprise Visit

Well, some of you may have noticed that I've been absent from my blog for awhile and that is very true. The reason I didn't post is because I made a surprise visit down to see my family. I left October 25th and returned home November 2nd. Only my parents and grandma knew I was coming down and I have to say it was a lot of fun to walk through the front door of my parents home and completely surprise my sisters!!!! They sure were taken back. Let's just say they were trying to figure out how I got there. I had a lot of fun surprising them as well as other people during my visit. What would be funny to watch was people would say a casual hi and then do a double take. "What are you doing here?" was typically their first response. I enjoyed surprising/visiting family and friends as well as former coworkers and students. Another fun surprise was the fact that one of my friends from church had her baby while I was out visiting so I was able to see him when he wasn't even a day old. (He was just precious and I'm so happy for them!)

So where was my DH during this time, he was on an Elk hunting trip. Unfortunately because of the warmer weather the elk weren't migrating like they typically do. Only one of the guys on the trip ended up getting an elk. And since there wasn't that many elk around, the group came home a day early, which meant my DH and I arrived home the same day! Believe me I didn't complain!!!

One thing I realized while on this trip was how much I missed my husband. We have only been married for about 3 1/2 months but I felt like a piece of me was missing. It really was the weirdest feeling for me and even L said the same thing. Though we both enjoyed our trips, we both agreed that it would be awhile before we want to be a part from each other.

So now that we're back home we are settling into daily living. It has rained almost everyday since getting back and my DH had snow one day up on the job. The leaves are also doing a great job at carpeting our front yard and I have been trying and let me repeat trying to rake them up. I've spend two days out there trying to get the leaves at least in piles and then move those piles off of the grass but both times it got to wet and rainy to continue. I have to say I'm making some progress but its going to be a continually battle to get them all off the grass. The only time I'll win is when the trees have shed all there leaves. Until than the battle will continue!!!
