I just had to laugh and shake my head!

Today was one of those days that turns out different then you plan but I have to admit I had to laugh when I saw how the afternoon went. For those of you who know me well you know this is not a situation I thought I see myself in.

The day began with an early rise to get ready for a full day of subbing. I have to say I was impressed with the fact that in 1 1/2hrs. both JB and I got up, showered, ate, he onto his bus and me on the way to sub. It was a good day subbing but a lot of papers to grade so I didn't get out of there until 4:10pm. JB's grandma was going to drop him off so the baseball coach could take him to the game an hour drive away. My DH and I were going to join him as soon as my DH got off work.

Well things changed! I talked to my DH around 4:00pm and found out the game was canceled, JB was at the B's and G's club and there was now a practice scheduled for 5pm, and my DH was working at least 1 hour late. I headed from my sub job into town to picked up JB from the B's and G's club and then dropped him off at practice. I then headed to the grocery store to get milk and did something that I always pictured working moms with kids in sport doing because they were to tired to make dinner. I brought two frozen pizzas. I really couldn't believe I was doing that. (I had planned to make sandwiches to take and eat at the game but somehow that didn't seem to sound as appealing when you're eating at home.) I got home around 5:30pm, figured I better walk the poor dog who had been chained up all day. My DH called while on my walk to say he would be able to pick up JB at 6:30pm from practice. Wonderful, now maybe I'd have a few minutes to put my feet up and type up this blog post.

Well, by the time I got back from my walk and began typing this post I got a 3rd call from my DH. There was another team who's game was canceled so they're going to have a small game with that team for about 3 innings. Since it was going to be another 45 minutes I headed into town to watch the game. Now we're back home, JB's in the shower and hopefully we'll be eating in the next 30 minutes. Then its on to homework and bed. Wow it sure has been quite the day and would you imagine it would be mine?! :)

Our Basement Project

Shortly after moving into our house, my DH and I undertook the job of cleaning out the basement so that we could us the area for storage. There was one bookcase type shelf that I used for my pantry/canning goods since I don't really have a big cabinet type pantry in the kitchen. That has worked out well but we really wanted to add some more shelving so that we could organize the "storage" in our basement better.

This last week we hired a friend to build us some shelves in the basement. We had him build them on two walls so that one set could be used for food items and the other set could store all the boxes, unused canning jars, paper goods, etc. Here's a smilebox of some of the before and after pictures. (Note: I haven't finished organizing the shelves but I'll post pictures when I'm finished with that part of the project)

Busy, busy!

Wow, the last couple of weeks have been quite busy. I have subbed 5+ days, attended baseball practices, done some planting, enjoyed the few sunny days we've had and watched many rainy days (we even had some hail). I've also had a surprise visit from my sweet cousin and her little guy and spent several afternoons looking through and sort through pictures with my mother-in-law. It has been a fun few weeks but it is amazing how fast the time can past. Here is a few pictures of our recent happenings!

Mowing the field

We have had this huge Cotton Wood tree out in the garden area that we found out last year is perfectly lined up with the sun and our garden. Our garden wasn't able to get sun until close to 11am. We decided to remove the tree. Here is a picture of my DH attaching a cable higher up the tree so they can pull it slightly so that when it is cut the fall will be directed!

Here's the aftermath

We also added two turkeys to our collection of animals. JB wanted to get one and its best not to just get one so now we have two. They were in a box in the kitchen but on Saturday they graduated to the small coop where the chicks use to be. (Warning: These turkeys aren't pets. The plan is to eat them so don't get to attached.)

Here is also an updated picture of our chicks. They are getting quite big and we have now moved them to the big coop with the big chickens.

So there's just some of the happenings in our neck of the woods!

A Little Bit of Mother's Day

My dear, sweet husband sent me this for Mother's Day since it technically was my first Mother's Day. Aren't the flower beautiful!! Of course next year at this time we look forward to snuggling and cuddling this new little one and it will feel even more like Mother's Day for me.

This year we celebrated Mother's Day at our house and I have to say I sure enjoyed it. We had it at our house last year but because of lack of tables/space etc. everyone ended up sitting around the living room eating. This year I wanted to try and get everyone at the table (not like our space situation changed or anything). My parents gave us a folding table for Christmas so we set it up and give it a go. I have to admit I enjoyed getting the table all set for the day. (This is the first time since getting married that I got use my lace table clothes!)

Though it was a tight fit we sure had a lot of fun!

Happy May Day!

Well, I don't have a basket of flowers to give to you all, so pictures will have to do!

Happy May Day!
