Meet the Family (continued)

Well, here are the newest members of our family, baby chicks.

We only got them 3 weeks ago. They originally were making their home in a box in the kitchen where we are able to plug in the heat lamp for warmth. After about a week of that my kitchen began to smell like chicks so we decided it was time to relocate them to the small chicken coop! They now have a larger area to run around in and spread their wings.

On the sad side we did loose one chicken. Apparently there was a little hole in the chicken wire and when my brother-in-law came by to visit he notice 2 of the chicks outside of the coop. We did a little chasing and catching of chicks (those little gals are a lot faster than one would expect) and when we recounted we were missing one. We looked around but were unsuccessful at finding her so now we are down to 9 chicks. We have fixed the hole so things look better for them. I do have to say that they have grown incredibly fast.

Here is the most update picture I have!!!

They are starting to look more like hens than chicks!!!

Oh my...these chicks must now be in their 'gangly' stage. Do you think they ask each other that age-old question that sisters tend to ask each other..."Do these feathers make me look fat?"
