Projects

Today has been the day of projects. JB is on spring break so he's been keeping himself busy on building a fort in the barn. I have to say its a nice fort! It even has a carpeted floor and right now my DH and JB are working on wiring lights into it. Last night JB slept in it but today he along with my two brothers-in-law added some more touches.

Before starting into the fort today, JB weed-eated all the way to the sign post along the ditch, so I began raking and cleaning up the debris. I spent a good amount of time doing that and once I got most of the ditch cleaned up I came in a took a break. I wanted to go down to Grandma's and dig up some more poppies but I decided to wait a little. Before I could go down there she came up and was checking on the already planted poppies. I came out and thus began the planting process again. I dug holes while she got the poppies from her house. She then planted them as I brought them down into the ditch. She told me this is a project she has wanted to do for over 30 years! Well, better late than never!

Callie decided she wanted to be helpful so she started making my holes a little bigger and soon she discovered that there was a mouse tunnel. That kept her busy for quite some time.

A short while later my dear mother-in-law comes walking by and decides to join in on the fun. She found a rake and began raking all the debris at the bottom of the ditch into piles. Eventually we got the boys to come over with the lawnmower/trailer and cart the piles away.

We now have more than half of the weed-eated area planted with poppies and decided to save the rest of the planting for another day. We joked with each other that this was becoming a "neighborhood" project. Of course we knew that but anyone driving by probably thought we were one of those work crews on the side of the road filling our time. No, we're just a bunch of crazy neighbors trying to beautify our ditch! :)

What a great project to have complete and the poppies blooming will be a fine reward!
